‹ Day 8

Mount Shkhara

2-min read

The wall of ice filling the sky above Ushguli is Shkhara — Georgia’s highest mountain at 5,193 metres, the crown of the Bezingi Wall, one of the great mountain faces of the Caucasus.

Its glacier feeds the Enguri, the river whose gorge you drove up to reach Svaneti — so by the time you stand here, you have followed this mountain’s meltwater all the way from the lowlands to its source.

🎒 The peak is clearest early — look up before the walk starts; by afternoon it often wraps itself in cloud.
